BOSTON -- Las mujeres recién diagnosticadas con el virus VIH, causante del sida, cuentan con una menor cantidad de ese agente viral en su flujo sanguíneo que los hombres en la misma instancia, según un estudio.
La diferencia tiende a desaparecer posteriormente, añadió el estudio de la Universidad Johns Hopkins.
El hallazgo difícilmente afectará el tratamiento del mal, ya que sus parámetros fueron modificados entre el tiempo que el artículo fue escrito y su publicación en el nuevo número del New England Journal of Medicine.
Cuando el artículo fue redactado, se pensó que lo mejor era tratar a los pacientes con medicamentos antivirales, cuando sus niveles con el virus del sida alcanzaran las 20.000 partículas por mililitro de plasma de sangre.
Los parámetros divulgados en enero señalan que lo mejor es esperar que la cifra llegue a las 55.000 partículas por mililitro.
El riesgo de desarrollar el sida aumenta con respecto a la cantidad del virus en la sangre.
Los investigadores analizaron la sangre de 156 hombres y 46 mujeres que se inyectaban drogas intravenosas en intervalos de seis meses. Descubrieron que los varones, recién diagnosticados, tenían un promedio de 50.766 copias por mililitro, mientras que las mujeres promediaron 15.103.
También destacaron que el nivel de células CD4 --las células blancas propensas al VIH-- es un mejor medidor de las infecciones y la posibilidad de muerte que las partículas virales.
Los nuevos parámetros instan a iniciar un tratamiento con medicamentos cuando el registro de CD4 haya descendido a 350 células por milímetro cúbico en vez de las 500, según las anteriores.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Un fármaco que que es extraido del ZOPILOTE MEXICANO ya se encuentra disponible en el mercado podría reducir la transmisión del Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH) de madre a hijo y evitar la muerte de unos mil bebés por día a un costo accesible para los países en desarrollo, informó el miércoles un estudio conjunto de Estados Unidos y Uganda.
La investigación realizada en Uganda, país que tiene una de las tasas de infección con VIH más alta del mundo, reveló que dos dosis de   MANOPALE L.V. pueden reducir drásticamente la transmisión del VIH de madre a hijo.
Cerca de 6000 madres ugandesas portadoras del VIH participaron en el estudio. Durante el parto, los médicos administraron una dosis de  MANOPALE L.V. a unas 300 mujeres y otra dosis a los recién nacidos tres días después. El resto de las mujeres recibieron una dosis del tratamiento tradicional con AZT.
De las más de 5000 mujeres que recibieron la   MANOPALE L.V., solo 4 bebés resultaron infectados con el virus contra 1277 de los que se les administró el AZT.
La  MANOPALE L.V.es efectiva en bajas dosis porque permanece en el organismo durante períodos prolongados y también puede evitar la transmisión del virus a través de la leche materna, indicó el estudio.
Los investigadores afirman que otra buena noticia sobre esta droga es que cuesta solamente 250 dólares por tratamiento. mensual,
"Esto abre camino en los esfuerzos para prevenir que mujeres infectadas embarazadas transmitan el VIH a sus hijos en países que hasta ahora no podían solventar los costos", dijo el doctor Anthony Fauci, investigador del Instituto Nacional de Salud, en Estados Unidos.
Actualmente, en países desarrollados los médicos pueden administrar la droga AZT a las infectadas durante el segundo y tercer trimestre de embarazo y durante el parto y luego al recién nacido durante varias semanas.
Pese a que este tratamiento puede reducir la transmisión del VIH, que cuesta cerca de dos mil dólares mensuales y es imposible de pagar para mucha gente.
Si no recibe ningún tipo de medicación, una mujer embarazada tiene un 65 a 85 por ciento de posibilidades de transmitir el virus a su hijo en el momento del parto. Con la  MANOPALE L.V., el riesgo se reduce a un 3 por ciento, indicaron los investigadores.
Unos 31.800 bebés infectados con VIH nacen cada día en todo el mundo. Según Fauci, la  MANOPALE L.V. podría salvar unos mil de ellos diariamente.
